Philadelphia Eagles vs. Indianapolis Colts: NFL Week 9 Pre-Game Analysis

Quarterbacks:

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick will make his triumphant return in this game, and Kevin Kolb again will be relegated to backup. Michael Vick had impressive statistics before his injury that rivals Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning. However, Vick lacks the intellect and adaptability of Peyton Manning, like the game against Houston Texans have demonstrated. Manning worked with less resources at his disposal yet still won the game.  Peyton Manning and the Colts get the edge.

Running Backs:

Javarris James is scheduled to run for the Indianapolis Colts. 3 attempts from last week isn’t much to speculate on, but I don’t think he looks good.  But he is running a vulnerable Eagles running defense, so he might be able to break big ones. LeSean McCoy is due to return this week.  He and the Eagles get the edge in the running game.

Wide Receivers:

Reggie Wayne and Pierre Garcon have a total of 4 touchdowns total and nearly 1,000 yards total. Jeremy Maclin and DeSean Jackson have a total of 9 touchdowns between them, and about 800 yards total.  It leans toward the Eagles wide receivers, although Wayne and Garcon can find and exploit holes just as easily, given their quarterback.

Tight Ends:

Jacob Tamme is the tight  end now for the Indianapolis Colts. He did get a touchdown last week, and averaging 10 yards per reception. Brent Celek has been getting less receptions this year, and with Michael Vick returning, Vick is his own safety valve.  Tamme and the Colts get the edge.

Defenses:

The Eagles are ranked 11th against the pass and 18th against the rush. The Colts meanwhile are ranked 7th against the pass and 28th against the rush.  The Eagles get the edge because at this point, LeSean McCoy can easily exploit the run defense.

Coaches/Intangibles:

Jim Caldwell and Andy Reid will still have their pass-first offense, but this could essentially be a push.  Peyton Manning has his audibles which will confuse even the Eagles defense, and Michael Vick and LeSean McCoy can both exploit this running defense.

The Edge:

The Edge goes to the Eagles in a 27-24 game in a nailbiter. I believe Michael Vick will score more on his feet than in the air in this game.
